Though Public Mind is Nehemiah抯 first solo release, it is not Nehemiah抯

debut on the music scene.  Raised in his father抯 church, Nehemiah has Va:jMN  
been performing music in one form or another for most of his life.   -#hl&^u$  
Nehemiah had recorded his first song by the age of 12 and at the age of 15 g M.(BN  
he headlined his first concert in his hometown of Portland, Oregon with HKf3eC  
the proceeds going toward teenage victims of domestic violence.  It was [:Y^0[2  
after that concert that Nehemiah was convinced that he wanted to pursue ttOsL')|  
music professionally. ={d\zjI$

This pursuit has had its ups and downs but each one of them has shaped IrK )N  
who Nehemiah is today, both as an artist and as a person.  The highlights ng\S%nA&J  
of Nehemiah抯 early career included an appearance in the motion picture Iu]P^8  
Reggie抯 Prayer, starring the late football star Reggie White.  In 7hQl,v< 5  
addition, Nehemiah appeared on a nationally syndicated talk show, took xr-scdh2  
his live show to Canada, and opened up for the famed R&B/Gospel group, WbF\=;$=7  
Virtue.  The experiences of his teenage years opened the door for \>Q,AyL  
Nehemiah to later join Soul, a contemporary gospel group signed to a F.6SX (x  
subsidiary of the Hendrix record label.  This release spent 9 weeks on QUO
?q+  
the Billboard gospel charts and peeked at number 36.  Though the group :2+:(^l  
was short-lived it provided Nehemiah the opportunity to tour the states O\z%6:'M  
and establish relationships that would bear fruit in the years to come. n~)%ou

After briefly filling the lead vocalist spot in a group with producer HR w\a#Bfcv  
Crump (Beyonce), Nehemiah decided to focus on developing his solo project.   UbXz`i  
His debut solo album, Public Mind, is the product of all of his life  G%{jU'2  
experiences, both good and bad.  The mid-tempo track 揟hat Person?is a %r!

celebratory autobiographical account of all that happened to Nehemiah as xae

he recognized all that Jesus Christ is.  Another personal song, 揊ly Away,? jA'+>`@  
was written for his daughter, Amiah, who died several weeks after being 1U!CD-%(  
born.  It is songs like these that helped the album find its title.   a'r\e2/e?H  
Nehemiah explains, 揟he title of the album is intended to communicate on )XWL'':bF  
two levels.  First, I wanted to emphasize that I identify with my audience.   scmbDaOn  
The things that they struggle with, I struggle with.  The things that `K.yE0^i  
trouble them, trouble me.  Second, I wanted to show that this album is not >jm9x1+C  
simply a collection of songs, it is a window into my mind and life which I %$U+?lk}

Nehemiah lists artists ranging from Commissioned to Boyz II Men to Phil 9ItsK  
Collins among his influences and the diversity of his personal palate comes D`+'#%%x  
through in the diversity of the album.  Nehemiah wrote and produced much of 8"? t6Z;5  
the disc himself while also teaming with producers and songwriters Derek a"}?{
  
Clark (Fred Hammond), Anson Dawkins (Dawkins & Dawkins), Chris Turner w%htY.-  
(Singleton抯), Cole Brown (Michelle Williams) and his brother J.B. {ES3nCL(8  
(Benjiman).  The production and vocals on the project are top notch, there N:0mjHG  
is nothing about Nehemiah抯 debut that sounds like the independent project 7yKadM~)  
it truly is.  But while people will definitely respond to the impressive (RQ kwu/  
vocals and banging tracks Nehemiah hopes they will especially be drawn to V\A?1 
 
the stories.  揝ome of these songs are birthed out of experiences I抳e {?82>q5F  
lived and some of them were born out of the experiences of my community.   |zSkQ_?54  
Not all people will be able to relate to the exact details of every song but @?z*: 7a  
I believe everyone will find themselves somewhere in each song.  Each of jl@xcs]#  
them speaks of something true and real that we can all identify with.  I VE!h!`<k
